Moon Hollow has been a staple home decor store out of Fairfield County, Connecticut for 23 years, and owners Cindy and Dennis Dunaway have histories as eclectic as the treasures they sell.
In 1995, Cindy and Dennis acquired the store, formerly named Simply Country. Cindy had been a dealer in the shop for years, selling antiques and one-of-a-kind clothing made of vintage fabrics.
Since then, they have morphosed the brand, replacing the quaint country collectables with a more whimiscal, enchanting collection of vintage and modern finds. In 2005, they renamed the store Moon Hollow, to better represent the cozy, magical style they had developed by introducing hand-crafted creations such as fanciful crowns, glamourous centerpieces, charming birdhouses and glittering holiday embellishments. In 2008, they moved out of their brick and morter store and made their treasures available online, to allow international access to their fabulous finds.
This eccentric aesthetic isn't anything new for the Dunaways. Before sharing their exceptional home stylings with southern Connecticut, they were pioneering the music industry. In the 1960s and 70s, Dennis was bass player in the original Alice Cooper group, while Cindy made her mark as costume designer for bands such as The Who, Pink Floyd and Alice Cooper.
In the years to follow, Cindy forged forward in fashion, designing everything from rock stars' stage outfits to elaborate wedding gowns and children's couture. Dennis continued playing music with various bands, and currently plays with Dennis Dunaway Project.
The Dunaways passed along their passion for creativity to their daughters. Renee is a singer and musician, while Ché Monet is in fashion and new media.
